Catfish Fishing On The River Ebro
We would like to offer you a chance to fish the world famous River Ebro in Spain, Europe’s premier destination for catfish, carp, mullet, blackbass, and zander of size to dream about, all waiting there to give you a fantastic fishing experience that you won’t get at home.
The River Ebro is considered to be the best in Europe for catfish. The catfish are getting bigger all the time as they have the perfect environment, short Spanish winters and large amounts of fish food and little competition from other fish.
Catfish: this is ever popular with English, Dutch & German visitors though out the year. The Ebro giants continue to get bigger each year and they have a very long lifespan. They are not a native of Spain but were introduced in the 1970’s. The females spawn in May & June so are at their biggest then. They will take most baits offered, live bait, dead bait, pellets or lures. As with most predators they eat & sleep. When feeding, the fishing is fantastic but like all fishing, be prepared to wait.
Carp: these are also in large numbers on the Ebro; common, mirror & crucian. Again 25 -30 pounders are regularly caught. Don’t forget that these are river fish, allow for the strength of the flow when the river is running high in the spring. Even the smaller fish can put up a great fight for you.
Don’t use maggots or cast ground bait it will only be washed away! Be like the locals, use par boiled beans, maize, bread, luncheon meat or potatoes. Pop-ups are also recommended, don’t forget bread crust or flake when the fish are on the top.
Black Bass: these fish give the best sport in July to September. When Fly fishing, float, spinning or jigging, carry some lures, mepps, forceps, a landing net and away you go.
Zander: these like to come out to hunt in low light, so early morning & dusk is the best time. Zander do not like to feel any resistance on the line.
